Your Files Stay on Your Device
PrivatePDF is built with a single core promise: your files never leave your device.Every tool — from PDF merging and splitting to compression and conversion — runs entirely within your web browser using WebAssembly and browser-native APIs. We have no backend servers that receive, store, or process your documents.
What Data We Collect
PrivatePDF collects minimal, anonymized usage data to understand how people use the site and to improve the experience:
- Analytics events (e.g., “compress_pdf”, “merge_pdf”) via PostHog — these include aggregate file size information but never your actual file contents.
- Page view data through standard analytics tools. No personal identifiers are stored.
We do not collect: your name, email, account credentials, IP address (beyond what your browser shares with any website), or the contents of any PDF or document you process.
Cookies
PrivatePDF uses a small number of browser cookies and localStorage values:
- wasm_cached — stored in localStorage to remember that the WebAssembly compression engine has been downloaded, avoiding a repeated ~10MB download.
- Analytics session cookies from PostHog (anonymous, no personal data).
Third-Party Services
We use the following third-party services to operate PrivatePDF:
- PostHog — product analytics (privacy-focused). Data is anonymized and used only to improve the product.
- Vercel — hosting and CDN. Vercel may log standard web request metadata (IP, user agent) in accordance with their own privacy policy.
Children's Privacy
PrivatePDF is not directed at children under the age of 13. We do not knowingly collect any personal information from children.
Changes to This Policy
We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected in the “Last updated” date at the top of this page. Continued use of the site after changes constitutes acceptance.
